It was perhaps Hog’s Breath’s most iconic site at the top of Caxton St in Petrie Terrace, now a new eatery is hoping to reach notoriety taking over the heritage spot

Petrie Terrace’s iconic Hog’s Breath site is set to welcome a new tenant.

The heritage building at The Barracks precinct facing Caxton St is being taken over by a ninth incarnation of Rockpool Dining Group’s The Bavarian restaurant.

The latest version of the popular German-themed beer hall will be a whopping 600-seater, with the hero a festoon-lit beer garden out the front for around 250-300 people.

“We really liked the building and where it sat and the ability to do a really cool, kind of traditional beer garden outside and really play with the amazing tree in the front,” says Rockpool Dining Group CEO Thomas Pash.

The whole space will be overhauled with stone wall features, wood, greenery, and large doors that roll up bringing the outside in. There will also be 30 TVs dedicated to sports, playing to its location near Suncorp Stadium.

“It’s a great spot to go before the games at Suncorp and have a feed and drink,” says food and beverage director for the Bavarian brands, Rebecca O’Shea.

As with all Bavarian venues, beer will be a focus featuring 40 brews on tap. They have also recruited acclaimed Aussie Brewers 4 Pines and Pirate Life to do a range of Bavarian-style craft beers, including a special Oktoberfest offering set to be launched at the venue later in the year.

On the food front, expect the restaurant’s signature menu of schnitzels, pork knuckles, German sausages and meat platters, alongside specials on game days to encourage sporting fans to come for a meal before heading to Suncorp.

“I think it will be just a real kind of fun, big experience and we do big well,” says Thomas.

The eatery is due to open mid-to-late July.
